Jean Francois Millet was a realist painter famous for painting peasant life in rural France. He saw godliness in physical labor. Millet was a great inspiration to Vincent Van Gogh withthe latter making master copies of Millet’s “Sower” and derivative works in his own style. Quoting both artists in subject and some stylistic choices and nodding toward the Parable of the Soils in Luke 8, Watters has created her own version of “The Sower” featuring a mother and her son at sunset.
