“Nature Triumphs and Comforts”

Triumph & Comfort

2014, Temporary Installation
Location: Richmill Ranch Open Space, Arapahoe County, Colorado

“Nature never did betray the heart that loved her.” – William Wordsworth

Serendipity, luck, grace, providence are all concepts that evoke the idea of a great “Other” at work. For “Triumph & Comfort”, I took a small collection of tools and materials to a large open space in Colorado with no premeditated work in mind. My process would be to engage the space within a short amount of time and respond to the environment. As I worked and experimented with various elements of the landscape, I was intrigued by the bare, dead wood in the middle of the field. While draping and dressing the tree with the tarp a spring storm began to move in quickly and overtake the work. The result was a surreal stake and claim for the sublime.
