Slow Summer

We wasted that summer away. Spread the days out across the table never finding the border pieces or corners. Rolled out of bed then moseyed. Flipped casually from one thing to another as flies landed on the counter. We wandered around town poking our heads in and out of shops like blackbirds on a New York sidewalk. Back at home the window unit in the studio made metal purrs and long sighs. We floated through June and then July our feet dangling in the water slowly baking until we were gooey.
